TIPS

CLIMB one of the peaks. The Papagaio peak is probably your best option, it is the closest to the city and it is a thrilling climb. You will even have to hire a guide, get to know the forest and enjoy an amazing view of the city.

EAT the Concon dish with fried banana bread or the Molho no Fogo with rice and matabala, preferably at the Bela’s Food stand. Don’t be fooled by the dodgy appearance, the food is to die for. Get in and try one of Bela’s delicacies!

TAKE a boat tour around the Island. Talk to the Bom Bom Island Resort marina manager and enjoy an amazing ride. The sailors over there know the coast like no others and will talk you through the fantastic and breathtaking scenery.

HIKE one of the many trails of the Island and lose yourself in the enchanted forest. A very beautiful and not so hard trail is the one leading to the Praia Grande do Sul Beach. You get to finish off with a warm swim on the Ocean and enjoy a stunning view over the Jockey’s Cap islet.

DINE in the Bom Bom Island Resort at least once, if you are not staying there already. If for some reason you have chosen to stay somewhere else don’t miss out on visiting the beaches and the restaurant, the food is second to none on the island and the atmosphere is engaging to the limit.

ENJOY a bike ride to the Roça Sao Joaquim and appreciate the best view of the south of the Island and its peaks. You will be able to get a different perspective on the Island that is truly remarkable. Choose a clean day or else most peaks will be covered by the clouds.

DON'T  miss out on a trip to the Boi Beach, in the north, or the Sao Tome Beach in the south. The Boi Beach you can easily reach by car, the Sao Tome Beach you will have to go by boat, arrange it at the Bom Bom Island Resort and you will have a great time. Take your snorkelling gear to see the amazing fish at the river mouth at the reach of your hand

AUGUST  is the culture month. If you can choose when to go, this is the time to get to know some of the Islands culture. The Sao Lourenço Fest and the Act of Floripes will certainly light up your day. Festivities every day of the month and specially at night. If this is when you are here you might be lucky enough to see a sea turtle climb to the beach to lay its eggs.

VISIT one of the iconic Roças of the Island. If you want to see a rehabilitated Roça, go to the Roça Paciência. If you would rather go to one that has been scared by the ages, taken over by nature, we suggest going to the Roça Infante Dom Henrique farther south. It includes a long hike.
